When Should You Exit A Trade ? Sugar & Crude Today

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

WHEN DO YOU EXIT A TRADE ?-- The biggest question that I have been asked is when do I exit a winning trade and when do I exit a losing trade? In my opinion the rule of thumb that I use is placing my stop loss at the 10 day high if I’m short or a 10 day low if I’m long as the theory is that I do not want something to go against me for more than 2 weeks.

Cotton Market Higher Despite Commodity Weakness

in Blog

Cotton Futures--- Cotton futures in the March contract finished up 21 points at 72.72 finishing higher for the trading session only by a hair, however the commodity markets across the board got slammed today as that tells me that cotton remains strong here in the short-term as it did not sell off due to pressure from other sectors which can occur at times.

in Blog, coffee futures, commodity trading, cotton futures, futures trading, Mike Seery, orange juice futures, seeryfutures, sugar futures

Sugar Futures---Sugar futures in the March contract finished lower for the 2nd consecutive session hitting a 4 week low as I've been recommending 2 bullish positions with an average price around 14.74 over the last 6 weeks getting stopped out in today's trade around 14.55 as sugar prices continue to go nowhere over the last 6 months.

Cattle Prices Down 5th Day In A Row

in Blog, commodity trading, feeder cattle futures, futures trading, Lean hog futures, live cattle futures, livestock futures, Mike Seery, milk futures, seeryfutures

Live Cattle Futures--- Live cattle futures in the February contract are trading lower for the 5th consecutive session down another 125 points at 119.27 right near an 8 week low continuing its short-term bearish momentum after prices topped out just 1 month ago on November 6th at 131.95 as I'm currently sitting on the sidelines as the chart structure is poor therefore the risk/reward are not in your favor.

S&P 500 Lower 2nd Day In A Row

in Blog

S&P 500 Futures--- The S&P 500 in the March contract traded lower for the 2nd consecutive session as I have not been able to say that in about a month as that's how bullish this market has been currently trading down 5 points at 2633 as I wrote in previous blogs last week I was advising clients to get out around the 2640 level as euphoria about this market is overextended in my opinion.

Do You Understand Seasonality ?

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

What do traders mean when they talk about seasonality and its effects on commodity prices? The definition of seasonality states that a characteristic of a certain time when the data experiences regular and predictable changes which occur every calendar year and in a time series that reoccurs or repeats over one year can be said to be seasonal.

Natural Gas Hits Yearly Lows

Natural Gas Futures--- Natural gas futures in the January contract is sharply lower for the 2nd consecutive day down another 9 points at 2.89 hitting another contract low and fresh yearly low as I was looking at a bullish position, but I will not jump in at this price level as buying at contract lows is the wrong idea over the course of time as I will be patient & look for a better opportunity.

The 10 Year Note Looks Bearish

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

10 Year Note Futures--- The 10 year note in the March contract is currently trading down 4 ticks at 124/04 right at major support which has been hit on a half-dozen times only to rally as I'm keeping a close eye on a possible short position if that level is breached on the closing basis.
